Baxi boilers — including the Baxi 200 to 800, Assure, Platinum, Duo-tec and EcoBlue ranges — show faults as an E followed by a number, such as E133. Some older models show the number on its own. The same code can mean slightly different things on different ranges, so always check the user manual for your boiler.

💧 E118 or E119 — Low Water Pressure
The most common Baxi code. The boiler stops when the pressure falls too low (around 0.5 bar).
- Turn the boiler off and let the system cool.
- Top up with the filling loop, following the steps in your boiler’s user manual, until the gauge reads 1–1.5 bar.
- Close the filling valves fully, turn the boiler back on and reset it.
If the pressure keeps dropping, there’s a leak or a faulty part and it needs an engineer. More help: boiler pressure low.
🔥 E133 and E28 — Won’t Light, or Condensate Problem
E133 means the boiler couldn’t light. E28 points to the flue or condensate. In cold weather, a frozen condensate pipe is one of the most common causes of both.
- Do your other gas appliances, such as the hob, work? If not, the problem is the gas supply, not the boiler.
- On a prepayment meter? Check it has credit.
- Freezing outside? Find the plastic condensate pipe where it leaves the house and warm it with a hot water bottle or warm (never boiling) water — only where you can reach safely from the ground.
- Then reset once.
If the code comes back, stop resetting and call a Gas Safe engineer.
🔄 How to Reset a Baxi Boiler
Most current Baxi boilers have a reset button on the front panel — press and hold it for a few seconds. On some older models you turn the selector knob to R and hold it for about 5 seconds. Your user manual shows the method for your model. Reset once after doing the checks above; if the same code keeps coming back, resetting won’t fix it.
